Lucy Ann Unwin writes both fiction and non-fiction for children. Her debut children’s novel, The Octopus, Dadu and Me (’23), was shortlisted for the Brilliant Book Awards and the Redhill Academy Trust Book Awards and featured on the Spark! school book awards longlist.
She is also the author of How To Be A Revolutionary (’24) — a ‘Book of The Week’ in The Week Junior — and Inside Your Brain: a non-fiction collaboration with Professor of Neuroscience and AI Caswell Barry, published by Thames & Hudson in 2025. Lucy and Caswell have delivered interactive neuroscience events for children at the Edinburgh Science Festival, the Oxford Science and Ideas Festival and The Royal Institution.
Lucy is also a freelance editor of writing for children and adults, and runs writing workshops and after-school writing clubs for children as Story Wolves. Her background is in journalism; she was a music journalist at BBC 6 Music for many years, where she was privileged enough to interview the likes of Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Adele, and presented entertainment bulletins for BBC On Demand and BBC World.
She grew up in the West Midlands but has always been drawn to hills overlooking the sea; with stints living in the Chilean city of Valparaíso and San Francisco before settling on the Sussex clifftops. She lives with her husband, two daughters and tortoise.
